The Best of the Best // Robb Report

When Holly Hunt set out to create its first wallpaper collection, it decided to call in the experts, partnering with Assemblage, a studio revered for its exquisite wallcoverings, as one of the three lines. Assemblage’s 29 designs speak both to its skilled craftsmanship and Holly Hunt’s grand ambition.

All of the wallpapers are made by hand—there’s not a single piece of heavy machinery in the repurposed Arkansas seed mill that Assemblage calls home. Instead, artisans use a secret trowel-and-blade technique to shape plaster on the papers. It’s a time-consuming process, one that takes years to master. Naturally, then, the final wallpapers are in a league of their own. Chevron Leaf, for instance, is a sculpted, geometric paper with a stripe of 22-karat gold leaf; Oya appears weathered by the sands of time, flash-gilded with mica powder so that it shimmers like a fresh pearl. We’d expect nothing less from a studio that counts Tiffany & Co., Chanel and Louis Vuitton among its many A-list clients.
